Australia finishes 7th in women's team pursuit

Aug 7, 2024

Australia has placed seventh in the women's team pursuit at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After qualifying in sixth position yesterday, the Australian team made one change for their first-round race against France. Chloe Moran, who was competing in the keirin tonight, made way for Alexandra Manly in her first ride of these Games.

Manly joined Georgia Baker, Sophie Edwards and Maeve Plouffe in setting a time of 4:09.975, but the French – buoyed by the home crowd – went nearly two seconds faster, pushing the Aussies into the final for seventh and eighth place.

Australia made another change for the final against Canada, which took place several hours later. Moran slotted back into the team while Baker sat out the race. The new quartet led at every time check, winning in a time of 4:11.548 to complete their pursuit campaign.

In the gold-medal race, the United States of America won with an unerring ride against New Zealand. In the bronze final, Great Britain came from behind to clinch the last podium spot from Italy.

Baker and Manly will return to the track on Friday night for the women's Madison, while Moran is listed to ride the individual sprint. Baker will also race the omnium on Sunday.
