Izaac Kennedy crashes out of Olympic final

Aug 2, 2024

It was a heartbreaking end to an Olympic Games debut for Queensland’s Izaac Kennedy after he crashed out of the men’s BMX Racing Olympic final.

Kennedy qualified in eighth spot and had the challenge of start from gate 8 for the final.

Despite a great start and fighting for third position into the first corner, the 23-year-old was pushed wide as riders on the inside came up the berm.

Kennedy ran out of room and was squeezed into the barriers, falling off his bike.

That would spell the end of the race for the Nerang BMX Club rider who had a brave Olympic campaign riding with a broken wrist, which he sustained two months ago at the UCI BMX World Championships.

It was a clean sweep for home country, with Frenchmen Joris Daudet winning gold, Sylvain André claiming silver and Romain Mahieu winning bronze.
