Logan Martin: Q&A with the ARA Australian Cycling Team

Jul 12, 2024

Logan Martin rode in the history books when he became the first male athlete to win a gold medal in BMX Freestyle when the discipline made its debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Martin has consistently pushed the limits of the sport, even building a skate park in his own backyard on the Gold Coast to take his riding to the next level.

The two-time world champion (2020 and 2021) now has his eyes fully focussed on defending his Olympic gold medal at Paris 2024.

Read on to get to know more about ARA Australian Cycling Team athlete Logan Martin.

What is your full name? Logan Anthony Martin

Age? 30

What is your hometown? Gold Coast

Tell us about your family. I’m married to Kimberly and we have 2 children together Noah (4) and Luna (2).

What's your favourite movie/TV show/ or book? My favourite movie would be Law abiding citizen

What's your cheat meal? Maybe it doesn’t count as a cheat meal but my favourite food to eat when eating out is sushi.

What's your coffee order? Medium long black with a dash of soy milk

What's your ideal holiday? A trip to the Maldives

When and how did you learn to ride a bike? Not sure when or how I initially started riding a bike but I started at the skatepark when I was 12. It was a bit of a hang out spot with my friends where we would all enjoy learning to jump the different jumps and learn different tricks together. Then after a little while it was something I started to really focus on getting better at.

How did you get into the sport competitively? I started competing in the little local events that were happening in the area (when I was a teenager) and when I started winning them I started to look for higher level events around the country. With the goal to continue competing and bettering my own level until I could finally verse the pros at the biggest international events.

What's your favourite place/track to ride? Why? I built a skatepark (training facility) in my backyard in 2019 for the sole purpose to help push my level of riding higher, so my skate park is probably my favourite place to ride.

What has been one of your career highlights? I won the first ever Olympic gold medal in freestyle BMX.

What do you hope to have achieved by the end of your career? I have achieved a lot more than I ever thought I would or set out to do, but I am currently chasing my second Olympics/ olympic Gold medal. I would love to add another one to my list of accomplishments.
